Sept 21: Shibori and Indigo: Japanese Resist Dyeing with River
Discover the beauty of Shibori, the traditional Japanese art of resist dyeing, in this hands-on workshop. You'll explore three key techniques—stitched (nui), clamped (itajime), and bound/tied methods—using pre-reduced indigo dye and community dye pots to create stunning patterns on fabric. Students are encouraged to bring 1-2 items made of natural fibers to customize.
Learn how to fold, stitch, and clamp cloth to resist dye in creative ways, and leave with a collection of your own hand-dyed samples. No experience needed; materials for samples provided. This workshop focuses on the resist dyeing techniques and all samples will be dyed with blue Indigo Dye.
Registration closes the Wednesday before class.
